Phillip Bailey Moncrease is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, rapper, music director, writer and producer out of Stockton, California.

Phillip grew up immersed in a variety of musical genres including, but not limited to, R&B, Motown, Soul, Funk and Hip Hop. He took up the alto saxophone at a young age and was first introduced to jazz through the music of Dave Brubeck. He soon added drums to his repertoire; leading his high school drum line and performing all over Northern California in various groups.


Phillip began rapping under the name 'Moncrease' in 2009 and recorded his debut EP "Empty Pockets" in 2011, and later went on a Northern California tour with the Virginia based group Butcher Brown in the summer of 2012. In 2013 he went international when he began employment with the touring agency El-Live, where he spent time performing in Asia and the Middle East. Phillip has become one of the most sought after musicians internationally due to his versatility and unique sound that conveys sensitivity without sacrificing strength or confidence. Those who have seen him play live laud him for his ability to channel a fiery energy and soulfulness into his playing in any setting that takes the music to new heights.

While in school, Phillip had the opportunity to learn firsthand from artists such as: Miguel Zenon, Robert Hurst, Jeff Tain Watts, Dave Brubeck, Freddie Hubbard, Marcus Strickland, Eric Harland, Robert Glasper, Taylor Eigsti, Bobby Watson, Bob McChesney, Jiggs Whigham, Bob Mintzer, Jeff Clayton, Christian McBride, Patrick Langham, Mic Gillette, Brian Kendrick, Gordon Kennedy, Martin Martinez, Mark Zaleski, Dann Zinn, Steve Roach, Mike McMullen and Joe Gilman.

As a performer and recording artist, Phillip has worked with artists and groups such as: CSU Sacramento Jazz A Band, Pacific Jazz Ensemble, Young Sounds of San Joaquin, Delta College Jazz Big Band, Butcher Brown, Javi Santiago, J Digital, Quickstrike, Bird's Eye View, Hand-Me-Down Brownie, Tony Saunders, Big Trippin, Gina Loring, Keith Martin, Eric Moore II, Robyn Jackson, Radio 3000, Jonah Christian, Chris Smith, Ben Flocks, Glenn Zaleski, Zach Brown, Cory Cox, Brian Chahley, William Corduroy, Tony Milano, Mike Rocha, Ron Freschi, The Malibus, Rocky Ramirez, Elementz, Melvin Crispell III, Brian Courtney Wilson, Freda Mitchell, Melodee Pryce and Yung Ricc.

In February 2022, Phillip became the Director of Magnification: Worship, Music, Media and Creative Arts at Victory In Praise Church in Stockton, California.
